La Cañada High boys’ basketball gets classic win over Ribet

La Canada High boys’ basketball got back to winning at its host tournament, defeating Ribet Academy, 64-43.

The Spartans received a balanced scoring attack Friday to pick up a pool-play victory in the La Cañada Holiday Classic.

Sean Estes paced the Spartans with 14 points and teammates Ben Choi and Koko Kurdoghlian added 13 apiece. Grant Arthur added 11 points for La Cañada, which will meet Mark Keppel in the tournament’s third-place game at 6 p.m. Saturday.

“We did a much better job tonight in hitting our shots,” La Cañada Coach Tom Hofman said. “We still have a long ways to go.

“Our defense is behind that of other teams. We’ll use the next two weeks to work on some things and get us ready [for Rio Hondo League].”

La Cañada dropped a 72-66 pool-play game to Bonita on Thursday.
