Sen. Liu introduces bike-helmet bill
State Sen. Carol Liu (D-La Cañada Flintridge) on Wednesday introduced a bill that would require adult bicycle riders in California to wear helmets.
“Any responsible bicycle rider should wear a helmet,” Liu stated in a release. “This law will help protect more people and make sure all riders benefit from the head protection that a helmet provides.”
If approved as submitted, Senate Bill 192 would also require all bicyclists to wear reflective clothing while riding at night.
Since 1994 the state has required that cyclists under the age of 18 wear helmets.
