The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating a residential burglary that occurred May 8 on the 400 block of Starlight Crest Drive in La Canada Flintridge.

A video surveillance camera on the property showed the crime was committed by four suspects, who are currently still at-large.

A woman left her home at 12:41 p.m. to find when she returned at around 3 p.m. that someone had broken into a rear sliding-glass door leading to the master bedroom. The suspect(s) had ransacked the home’s interior, stealing a leather Louis Vuitton handbag containing an unspecified amount of cash, a gray security safe and three pieces of luggage, according to a sheriff’s report.

Altogether, the amount of currency reported stolen was about $4,000.

A first suspect is thought to have entered the home through the sliding-glass door, though deputies saw from the surveillance footage that the front door, which had been left open when the victim arrived home, was the point of exit.

A second victim, a man living at the residence, told deputies the home has an alarm system, but that it was not armed at the time of the incident. He pointed them to the surveillance footage, which revealed four suspects were involved in the break-in.

According to the footage, at around 1:49 p.m., a black adult male -- appearing to be in his 30s or 40s and wearing a dark-colored baseball cap with a white diamond emblem, a navy blue bomber jacket and white T-shirt -- rings the doorbell. Not receiving an answer, the man leaves the residence, returning at 2:01 p.m.

Footage shows him knocking on the door, and one minute later, walking toward the home’s north gate and the backyard. At 2:04 p.m., the man exits the residence through the north gate, walking southbound on Starlight Crest Drive and out of view. Four minutes later, he returns carrying a black umbrella and again heads for the north gate.

Another suspect, described in the report as a black adult male of the same age wearing a white “do-rag” on his head, a gray shirt and blue jeans, approaches the home at 2:13 p.m. and also knocks on the door. The camera shows him heading toward the south gate of the residence and away from the property.

At 2:16 p.m., the first suspect opens the front door from the inside, and the second suspect returns and enters the home. Three minutes later, two other adults arrive at the home. The third suspect is described as a black adult male in his early 20s or 30s, wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt with a black-and-white, diamond-print pattern and dark pants.

A fourth suspect, a female in her early 20s or 30s wearing a gray sweat suit with a black circular logo on the back, enters the home with the third man at 2:19 p.m. The third suspect leaves the house for a moment and is seen at 2:22 p.m. backing a newer model, gray BMW sport utility vehicle (possibly an X6 or GT model with a sunroof and paper vehicle plates) into the driveway of the residence.

One minute later, the second suspect is seen carrying out a dark red piece of luggage, while the female suspect leaves with a gray piece of luggage. The first suspect also leaves, carrying a purple suitcase. The female returns to the house and comes out again carrying a dark handbag. The four individuals then load up the back of the vehicle and leave, heading southbound on Starlight Crest Drive and out of sight.

Footage from the incident was not available Friday afternoon.

The Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station encourages anyone who may have witnessed the incident or seen the suspects or vehicle to call (818) 248-3484.
