La Cañada sandwich shop featured on KTLA segment

A longtime La Cañada business had a brush with local fame last week, when KTLA-5 Morning News co-anchor Chris Burrous came by to take a bite out of one of Berge’s Sandwiches.

The morning newsman — long known for turning up at local hot spots requested by viewers in the segment “Burrous’ Bites” — was turned on to the location by faithful customer and former employee Jennifer Merkel.

Merkel dared him to try a sandwich served on the shop’s signature Armenian bread and not fall in love, according to Queeny Yeghiaian, who runs the enterprise with son John. When he arrived at Berge’s for the taping last Wednesday, Burrous opted for a tuna sandwich.

His reaction? Viewers will have to wait and see, when the segment airs sometime in early February.
