LCFEF campaigns for school funds

The annual Spring Phone Campaign in support of La Cañada’s public schools is currently underway, with directors of the La Cañada Flintridge Educational Foundation dialing for dollars in hopes of meeting this year’s fundraising goals.

The all-volunteer nonprofit organization has found ways to raise more than $2 million annually in recent years to help La Cañada Unified retain teaching positions and keep smaller class sizes in grades K-6 and in ninth-grade English and math.

According to Deborah Weirick, executive director of the organization, LCFEF funds are also used to help provide electives for grades seven and eight, after-school writing and math tutoring, districtwide technology upgrades, improvements, equipment and teacher training; college and guidance counselors for high school students, and the weekly elementary school art, drama and music program. Funds raised during the current campaign will also be earmarked to support STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) curriculum throughout the district next year.

Families who have students attending LCUSD schools are asked to donate $2,500 per year. Donors who have contributed $500 or more this school year to the foundation will receive donor appreciation yard signs beginning May 15.
