Orthopaedic Guild has a busy December

Share

December saw members of the La Cañada Flintridge Orthopaedic Guild participating in a host of activities, including a Christmas meeting and luncheon at the home of sustaining member Liz Argue. During that event, gifts for children were collected on behalf of the Orthopaedic Institute for Children for distribution at a clinic in Calexico.

The local guild also assisted the institute at its annual Christmas Toy Party, held at its downtown Los Angeles campus on Dec. 7. There, approximately 2,000 Southland children with orthopaedic injuries or conditions were given gifts as well. Santa was a featured guest who arrived by helicopter and helped deliver toys to the assembled children. Members of LCF Orthopaedic Guild, Ginney Pruitt, Arlene Massimino, Marie Gilhooly, Carolyn Geer, Marie Baker, Joan Cleven and Caryl Pettit saw to it that each family in attendance received a baseball that had been signed by Dennis Powell, former MLB pitcher who played for the Dodgers in 1985-86.

On Dec. 14, guild members Ginney Pruitt and Arlene Massimino were back at the Orthopaedic Institute to assist California Highway Patrol officers with the CHP Toy Party. That time, Santa arrived in a squad car. Toys were presented to more than 100 children who had visited a doctor at the institute that day.

Today (Jan. 5) the guild will meet at the home of its president, Joan Cleven. A discussion is planned on how best to generate funds for donation to Orthopaedic Institute. Meetings are held monthly September through June, and visitors are always welcome. To learn more, contact Marie Gilhooly at (818) 249-5262.
