Organizations: Panhellenic group announces scholarship winners
The Glendale Area Alumnae Panhellenic has announced the recipients of its 2016 scholarship awards.
This year, the group awarded three Mary Ellen Gilstrap Memorial Scholarships. The late Gilstrap, who passed away in 2005, had been a member of Chi Omega sorority and an 18-year member of the local Panhellenic organization.
Those given the Gilstrap scholarships were Amber Graves, Selena Zhang and Chelsea Johnson. Graves, a La Cañada High graduate who plans to study business administration and sports management, will attend Brandeis University in the fall. Zhang, also a LCHS grad, will be heading to Harvard University, where she plans to major in biological science. Johnson, a 2014 graduate of Flintridge Prep, is studying at the University of Chicago, where she is a member of Delta Gamma.
The 2016 College Sorority Member Scholarship recipients include La Cañada residents Jeanne Bay, a sophomore at Cal Poly San Luis Obispo who is a member of Chi Omega; Meghan Knapp, a junior at Southern Methodist University who is a member of Delta Gamma; and Sophia Lamb, a freshman at Clemson University who is a member of Kappa Alpha Theta.
The 2016 High School Scholarship recipients include recent LCHS graduates Jenny Callen, who will attend UC Davis; Jenna Dorse, who will attend UC Berkeley; Sofia Kim, who is headed to Cal Poly Pomona; Gareen Simone Puglia, who will attend the University of Texas, Austin; and Rashi Shah, who will attend Chapman University.
Recipients from Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy include Alejandra Gurrola, who will attend Boston University; and Julia Melehani, who will attend Lehigh University.
Glendale Panhellenic officers and volunteers for the 2015-16 year included President Georgine Archer, Burbank, Delta Gamma; Vice President/Benefit Chair Kim Westhoff, Glendale, Alpha Omicron Pi; Secretary Elaine Chapman, La Cañada Flintridge, Kappa Kappa Gamma; Treasurer Jerri Johnson, Pasadena, Sigma Sigma Sigma; Benefit Co-Chair Julie Weller, Glendale, Delta Zeta; Scholarship Social Chair Marta dePaula Cea, La Cañada, Pi Beta Phi; and Scholarship Chair Janice Paul, La Cañada, Delta Delta Delta. Scholarship Committee members included Rondi Werner Redmann and Deb Ann Orfalea, Glendale, Zeta Tau Alpha and Rachel Clugston, Los Angeles, Delta Phi Epsilon.
