Tea and scholarships served up by Thursday Club to local students

As the school year draws to a close, the La Cañada Thursday Club feted at a May 4 tea meeting several teens who won scholarships in three categories.

State Sen. Anthony Portantino was the featured speaker at the event, held at the Woodleigh Lane clubhouse.

The Thursday Club Philanthropy award went to Hope Morrison from the Hillsides Youth Moving On (YMO) organization. YMO supports foster children who have turned 18, and are in transition. Morrison is currently attending Pasadena City College. She will graduate in the fall and then plans to attend UCLA or UCSD to major in communication.

The Thursday Club Scholarship Foundation presented scholarships to La Cañada High School seniors Emily Carr, Taleen Sarkissian, Jenny Wang, Jillian Pih, Morgan Bowman, Grace Rickert and Tyler Borland. Holly Miller, also of LCHS, was granted the club’s Greenawalt Foundation award.

Flintridge Prep students Kendall Kikkawa and Lilly Maxfield also won club scholarships, as did Crescenta Valley High senior Noor Alanizi, St. Francis High senior Scott Carney and Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy senior Sarah Montgomery.
