The Valley Line: Lighted Window Preschool holds casino themed fundraiser

Share

The Thursday Club was the setting for the fundraiser of the Lighted Window Preschool, which is headed up by director Suzie Johnson and her assistant director, Lara Stewart.

An enthusiastic gathering of parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and others met to play casino games, bid on silent auction items, and dine on fabulous “comfort food.”

Bunches of red, white and black balloons led guests to the sign in table and giant face cards of Kings, Queens and Jacks were attached to the patio gates. Many of the guests were hoping that Lady Luck would shine on them at games of craps, blackjack and roulette.

Zo’s catering whipped up delicious menu choices: barbecued meats with side dishes such as corn-on-the-cob, corn bread, and macaroni and cheese.

The silent auction table was seeing a lot of action. Among the bidding items were four tickets to “The Voice” finale, a two-night stay for two in Las Vegas and two tickets to the Cirque du Soleil: Michael Jackson ONE concert, two tickets to the sold out Wango Tango concert, and adorable handmade projects created by the preschool’s students.

The fundraiser was a group effort. The Casino Royale committee members were Charbel Ghabi, Teague Sanders, Eliana Ghabi, Catherine Sanders, Lauren Shen, Tanya Sellers, Marianna Bayramyan, Heidi Cho, Crista Chase, Shannon Berry, Shannon Heberger, Anne Hitchcock, Megan Koch, Lara Steward, Jenna Wagner and Ashley Myers.

Playing Bingo is a great American game and it has always been a favorite fundraiser for the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn. This year’s event was held at the Community Center on Chevy Chase Drive.

There was a good turnout and the fun unfolded with great enthusiasm with winners calling out that they had a “Bingo” ringing out as each game was played.

Tyler Wright, president of YMCA of the Foothills, was the emcee. Dena Hardin was the chair for the event and she coordinated an outstanding evening for more than 80 people.

Partygoers enjoyed Dinah’s Fried Chicken meals, then ventured over to the dessert table that featured an array of Dots Cupcakes.

Prizes included cash, some beautiful azalea plants so generously donated by Nuccio Nurseries, and gift certificates from local businesses.

Association supporters also gathered this month at Cafe Bizou for fine food and beverages, also a fundraiser for the LCF TRA.

On May 28, the Tournament will hold an “Open House” at the float site to see what the chassis looks like for our city’s 2017 float that is called “Backyard Rocketeer.” Also watch for some of our local “floaters” taking part in the Fiesta Days Parade.
