The Valley Line: Janklow and Elevation Band perform at Descanso Gardens

It was a lovely, cool evening on June 23 for the Music on the Main jazz concert at Descanso Gardens.

Danny Janklow and his five-piece Elevation Band were purveyors of great tunes the other night. Janklow is an alto sax and flute musician who is making his mark on the jazz scene.

He recently made his debut performance at the Playboy Jazz Festival with John Beasley’s big band project called MONK’estra Volume 1 at the Hollywood Bowl.

Janklow told me after the Descanso concert that it was quite a thrill to play “The Bowl.”

He is also performing on John Beasley’s big band project, which is coming out on Mack Avenue Records on Aug. 19.

Be sure and keep your Thursday evenings through the end of July free because Music on the Main is a fun place to be. Just bring a chair or a blanket, snacks to nosh on and whatever you feel like sipping.

Vince and Judy Dundee opened up their lovely home to host the La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Assn. Happy Hour.

It was a balmy evening, which made it so pleasant in their tree shaded yard.

According to tradition, folks brought hors d’oeuvres and desserts for everyone to share.

Among some of the “floaters” enjoying the evening were: Joey Mitchell, Art Johnson, Sarah and Mayfield Marshall, Liz and Bob Craven, more of the Dundee family — Erin, Rita and Vince Sr., Pamela and Bud Carney, Terry and Gloria Beyer, Richard Grippi, Joe and Lynne Thompson, Pat Hutchins, Bobbi and Clyde Hemphill, Nancy Wynman, Jeffifer Allison, Lorraine Riewe Cooper, Charlotte Layland, Tony Riewe, Bill Pounders, Sue Beatty, Barbie Eland, Mary and Brenda Gant, Jenny and Frank Pass, Lisa and Jon Curtis, Lisa Durkin, Bob Wallace and Pat Foltyn.
