The Valley Line: Kirchheimers’ backyard railroad beckons La Cañada float supporters to a memorable happy hour

It was “All Aboard” when about 85 people gathered at the La Cañada Flintridge home of Sherry and David Kirchheimer to ride their miniature train and chat with neighbors at the recent La Cañada Flintridge Tournament of Roses Happy Hour.

The weather was a wee on the toasty side as guests enjoyed hors d’oeuvres and cooling beverages as they took turns hopping aboard the “Flintheim Railroad” in Sherry and David’s backyard.

Alison Davitt, one of the guests and the wife of Mayor Mike Davitt, said, “The evening had a magical feeling created by the Disney-like environment of the frontier railway.”

The grounds of the Kirchheimers’ lovely Flintridge Avenue home were freshly manicured with beautiful green lawns and flowers in abundance. It was a beautiful setting for guests to catch up on community news and the progress of this year’s float, named “Panda-monium.”

Some of those enjoying this warm summer evening were Pat and Otis Hutchins, Sue Beatty, Art Johnson, Peggy Hotaling, Bobbie and Clyde Hemphill, Jeff Hemphill, Pam Gossoo, Fran and Bill Evans, Nancy and John Wolhaupter, Dick and Evie Barley, Maureen Bond, Cindy Crane, Gloria and Terry Beyer, Dick Grippi, Mike and Nancy Leininger, Bill and Brett Pounders, Bob Wallace, Jim and Adene Misamore.

More were Mary and Daryal Gant, LCFTRA President Chuck Terhune, Joe Thompson, Ed and Bonnie Gould, Pat Anderson, Mike Stenstrom, John and Diane Landrum, Susan and Bill Imbriale, Roy and Lillian Olofson, Bill Fleming, Mark Fleming, Pat Foltyn, Jennifer and Steve Hronek, Stewart Lee, Jenny and Frank Pass, Duane and Mary Batenhorst, Eremita Miranda, Larry Andreason, Marylou Pelzer, Harriet Hammons, Bev Albright, Charlotte Layland, Tony Riewe, Jeff Hughes, Brenda Gant, Tim Rahtz, Lyn and Bud Slotky, Farhad Moha, Len and Brenda Pieroni and state Sen. The next Happy Hour will be held on Friday, Sept. 22 at the home of Nancy and John Wolhaupter, 4735 Alta Canyada Road. Anyone over 21 is welcome to attend. Just bring an appetizer to share and enjoy a fun, casual evening with friends in support of the 2018 Rose Parade Float “Panda-monium.”
