The Valley Line: Flintridge Guild draws enthusiastic crowd for boutique and luncheon

I recently attended the annual Flintridge Guild of Children’s Hospital fall luncheon and boutique themed “A Thankful Heart,” held at the redecorated Altadena Country Club.

Once again, it was a well-attended fundraising Flintridge Guild event for Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, the oldest and most respected pediatric hospital in Southern California.

The Guild, led by Debbie Post, gives generously in support of passionate patient care of the hospital’s young patients and in support of ongoing leading-edge education of their caregivers.

A highlight of this gathering begins with an opportunity for guests to shop the boutique featuring jewelry, clothing and decorative housewares from 18 different vendors.

There is always a crush around the sweet shop that showcases delicious homemade treats that have been baked by Guild members. Kim Kessler and Kathy Kovalcik were the incredible sweet shop chairmen.

When the luncheon bell sounded, guests gathered in the large dining room for meal and an inspiring and moving talk by Krista Gorelik, who spoke about the life-saving, exceptional care that her child received at Children’s Hospital.

Along with Post, Kessler and Kovalcik, others to be congratulated on yet another lovely and successful Flintridge Guild of Children’s Hospital fundraiser are Sandy Ahn, Savonia Angelica, Daryl Baker Pollock, Cathy Beauclair, Sue Berta, Laura Buchanan, So Choi, Delia Cotter, MaryAnne De Brian, Lisa Dick, Patty Dwyer, Linda Fults, Melinda Gilllman, Sharon Grey, Karen Hopper, Jenny Hull, Kristin Kassabian, Patti Kriste, Melanie Liu, Angela Marchetti, Donna Nickoloff, Maureen Railsback, Michelle Sabourin, Teresa Salvo, Yvonne Slaught, Tandy Stanislawski and Joellen Yundt.

It was a gathering of the Napier clan at my son’s home in Livermore for Thanksgiving.

What a difference a few hundred miles makes weather-wise! I was leaving 90 degree heat in La Cañada and landing in 60-plus degree crispness and a landscape dotted with trees with brightly colored leaves. Even the leaves on the grapevines that surround Livermore were showing off vibrant autumn finery.

I hope that your Thanksgiving celebrations with family and friends were exceptional.
