Members of the La Cañada Gladiators Junior Midgets football team and their coach were recognized in a City Council meeting presentation Tuesday for earning the title of San Gabriel Junior All-American Football Championship for a record fourth consecutive year.

Gladiators President Kevin Lacey congratulated players for finishing the season with a perfect 11-0 record, and for maintaining an astonishing 42-1 record across four seasons. He expounded on the many reasons parents enroll their children in youth sports.

“It’s not about winning. They want to build character. They want them to learn how to study. They want them to learn to balance what they want to do with what they have to do,” Lacey said. “I like to think that’s what we try and do most.”

Coach Jeremy Cisneros was recognized alongside 30 individual players, who each received a certificate of recognition from Mayor Jon Curtis.

“Congratulations to you, especially on the way you approach this, because it is so important building character and values for the future,” Curtis told players and team leaders.
