Share

Nine Cadette Girl Scouts from St. Bede the Venerable parish in La Cañada Flintridge on Oct. 31 received the Marian Medal during a Presentation Mass at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.

The local scouts, eighth-grade students at St. Bede School, La Cañada High 7/8 and Westridge School, completed a year-long program under the auspices of the Catholic Committee for Girl Scouts in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles, which has administered the program for 57 years.

Those earning the medal included Emily Cupo, Kathleen DeRose, Jacqueline Garrity, Isabella Grigorian, Grace Italia, Lauren Nettels, Christine Perasso, Isabella Portantino and Olivia Roginson.

The program includes Scripture study, discussion, analysis, prayer, saying the Rosary and activities designed to further the participants understanding of Mary as a role model in their lives and to deepen their Catholic faith. In addition, a Christian Witness service project is required. For their project, the local Cadettes helped the homeless by volunteering with St. Bede Skidettes and Brother’s Helpers to make lunches and dinners for shelters and they planned, prepared and served a dinner at Ascencia, a shelter in Glendale.

Moderator for the group was Girl Scout leader and St. Bede parishioner Ellen Portantino.
