Flintridge Guild of Children’s Hospital has announced it will stage its inaugural “Chocolate Race” in La Cañada on Sunday, May 1 and is inviting local participation.

The walk/run race is open to all comers, whether they’re school teams, singles or families — even pet dogs will be welcome. Pit stops along the way will recharge human participants with various chocolate offerings.

The 9 a.m. race will begin and finish at Memorial Park, 1301 Foothill Blvd., where vendors will have booths offering foods and other goods. Cost to enter is $30 for adults (increases to $40 after April 29); entrance for children 5 to 18 is $15 (increases to $25 after April 29). Children younger than 5 can participate at no charge. Proceeds will benefit Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.

“We are hoping this fun and healthy activity will inspire all members of our community to come together and support each other, and, most importantly, this amazing hospital that treats so many of our young residents when they need it most,” said Michelle Sabourin, event chair.

Spring Home Tour tickets available

Local civic leaders and parent volunteers are gearing up to take shifts as guides and ticket sales are underway for the 30th annual La Cañada Spring Home Tour, scheduled for Friday, April 29, from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. and from 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The tour, which benefits La Cañada High School 7-12 and is organized by its two PTA groups, will also feature a catered luncheon (11 a.m. to 2 p.m.) and evening reception (6 to 8 p.m.) as options.

On the day of the event, ticket prices are $50 for the tour, $35 for the luncheon and $40 for the evening reception and will be available at the Apple Cart, 1518 Foothill Blvd. Tickets at reduced prices are available in advance at the Apple Cart, Flintridge Bookstore and Coffeehouse or Printex. They can also be purchased online at www.lacanadahometour.com.

This year the featured tour homes included a French Country-style home built in 2009 and set on a three-quarter-acre lot with infinity pool and expansive views; a “green” ranch-style home that was redesigned in 2007 by its owners committed to making it energy-efficient and the grounds drought-tolerant; a picturesque Spanish-style house high in the La Cañada hills and an immaculately restored 1920s Tudor Revival.

Ticket holders for the catered luncheon portion of the day will enjoy the 1.5-acre grounds of a Cape Cod-style estate with a gated motor court, where the event’s marketplace will be staged. Live music will be served up with the midday meal. The evening reception will be held at a quiet, secluded Mid-Century ranch property with an elegant poolside entertainment space.

“Those people that take the tour and/or enjoy the luncheon or evening reception can look forward to appreciating these delightful homes,” according to the PTA news release.
