Applications available for scholarships

Share

Eligible high school students are invited to apply for one of several college or technical school scholarships — ranging from $500 to $2,200 per recipient — that are offered annually through the Community Scholarship Foundation of La Cañada Flintridge. The deadline to apply is April 30.

Scholarships will be granted on the basis of academic achievement as well as references, community service and character. Minimum criteria for eligibility include a 3.0 unweighted grade point average and documented financial need. Financial need is based on information the student provided through the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

Full-time students who attend a public or private school located within the city of La Cañada Flintridge, as well as Crescenta Valley High School, regardless of home residency, may apply. Additionally, students receiving services associated with Hathaway Sycamores and Hillsides Pasadena are also eligible.

According to Rose Linda Gonzales, vice president of scholarships for the local foundation, eligible high school seniors are encouraged to check with his or her college counselor, or visit the CSF website, csflacanada.org, where scholarship applications can be downloaded. Applications can be also found in the college counseling offices at the eligible campuses.

Established in 1964, CSF has awarded more than $1 million in scholarships since its inception, assisting more than 800 families. Last year, 19 area students were given CSF scholarships totaling $23,000. This year’s recipients will be recognized at a luncheon planned for Sunday, June 19, at USC Verdugo Hills Hospital.
