La Cañada Flintridge

Nov. 12

Forgery: 600 block of Foothill Boulevard. A loss prevention officer from a local business informed deputies that he’s been investigating two women who have entered the store on about 10 separate occasions to purchase small items with American Express travelers checks. Each time, the suspects would leave with the item and the cash change they’d received from the clerk.

The loss prevention officer said he believed the travelers checks were counterfeits. When he called American Express, he learned from an investigator the checks had been reported stolen. He submitted to deputies an eight-page report, with photos of the suspects, who were seen driving away from the store in a red Chevy Suburban. The suspects are black females believed to be 36- and 44-year-old residents of Los Angeles.

Dec. 30

Burglary, residence; petty theft, unlocked vehicle: 1000 block of Oxford Way. A man told deputies that sometime between 6:30 p.m. the day before and 8:30 a.m. that day, someone entered his unlocked BMW 528i while it was parked in front of his driveway and stole a pair of Maui Jim sunglasses and his garage door remote.

The suspect(s) then apparently used the remote to open the garage door. The victim’s bicycle, a black Cannondale hybrid mountain bike, was stolen from inside the garage. The man told deputies he and his wife thought they heard a noise at around 2 or 3 a.m. but figured one of their children had awoken.

Dec. 31

Indecent exposure: 4400 block of Belair Drive. A woman reported she was sitting on the passenger’s side of her vehicle in front of her residence waiting for her husband when a Latino male walked up to her and tapped on her window. When she looked over she saw the man had grabbed his penis from his pants and began masturbating in front of her. When the victim began to call the sheriff’s department, the man walked away toward the Pizza Hut parking lot and out of view. An employee told deputies he’d seen a Latino male wearing a dark colored jacket with a hood, but could not describe the man’s face.

Jan. 4

Identity theft: 1200 block of Flintridge Avenue. A woman told deputies she’d received a letter on Dec. 19 from Comenity Bank informing her “irregular” transactions had been made in her Orbitz Rewards Visa account and that the account had been suspended. When she called the bank, she learned some transactions had been made by a person who was incarcerated, but the representative could not provide any more details.

Several days later, the victim received letters and phone cards from various credit card companies regarding the status of applications submitted using her personal information. Then, on Jan. 2, she was informed by a department store employee that an unknown person had called the store to ask for the credit limit of her account. The caller refused to provide identifying information requested by the store, so the account was blocked.
