Share

Sept. 19

Vandalism: 400 block of Foothill Boulevard. A woman returned to her dance studio at around 2:30 p.m., and noticed a 12-foot-long blue awning out front had been torn. She told deputies it was undamaged when she left the studio at around 1 p.m. the day before. The tear was approximately 4 square inches.

Mail theft: 4200 block of Chevy Chase Drive. A woman was waiting on a UPS delivery of medication that was scheduled to arrive on Friday. It never came, but when the woman called UPS, they reported it had been delivered that day. The same thing happened with a postal delivery on Saturday. Deputies observed there was no visible damage to her mailbox, which did not have a lock.

Sept. 20

Forgery: 4200 block of Chevy Chase Drive. A woman who’d reported an earlier mail theft of some medication and other miscellaneous items said she received an email notification indicating she had a check for an unspecified amount about to be cashed and deducted from her Discover credit card account. She immediately called Discover and canceled the check, then contacted the sheriff’s department. The victim said she believed the suspect was the person who stole her mail.

Aggravated assault: 2300 block of Foothill Boulevard. A man said at around 5 p.m. he pulled into a gas station to put air in the tires of his car when he saw a silver Mercedes approaching him in reverse at a high rate of speed. He tried to get the driver’s attention by “blowing his horn excessively” to get him to stop. That’s when an Asian male exited the vehicle and began yelling and cursing. He walked up to the man’s vehicle and punched the rear driver’s side door.

The victim took his car to another area of the lot and approached the Mercedes to photograph its license plate. When he approached, the man punched him in the mouth and facial area six to seven times, causing injuries.

The victim pushed at the suspect, who got back into his car and drove eastbound on Foothill. The victim was taken to USC Verdugo-Hills Hospital and treated for his injuries.

The suspect was described as being about 5 feet 9 and weighing 200 pounds, wearing a white T-shirt and blue shorts. Deputies later received a family disturbance call from Montrose, in which the suspect and vehicle description matched that of the suspect in the La Cañada gas station assault.

Sept. 22

Grand theft: 3200 block of Chevy Chase Drive. A construction worker reported that sometime between 3 p.m. the day before and 8 a.m. that day, someone stole a red and white “Hammerco” concrete breaker that was left in front of a residence.

Sept. 24

Burglary, residence: 5200 block of Harter Lane. A man reported that sometime between 9 p.m. Thursday and 2:30 p.m. that day, someone entered his home by a rear downstairs bedroom door and stole a 32-inch television and two paintings of nature scenes approximately 3 feet by 2 feet in length from the upstairs kitchen area. Deputies observed the rear downstairs wooden door appeared to have been forced open.

Sept. 25

Grand theft, vehicle parts: 600 block of Foothill Boulevard. A woman told deputies she parked her 2015 Toyota Sienna in an east parking lot at around 9:30 a.m. She returned to her vehicle an hour later and began driving to a destination on Foothill Boulevard. When she arrived, she noticed her headlights and grill had been stolen and the lock on the driver’s side door damaged, though nothing appeared to be missing from inside.

Deputies believed the suspect appeared to have used a saw to cut the lower front bumper to access the bolts that hold the headlights in place. Wires connecting the lights had also been cut, and the portion of the key that holds the door lock was missing from the driver’s side door.

Petty theft, cellphone: 900 block of Foothill Boulevard. A woman visited a store and placed her cellphone on top of the double basket cart after sending text messages to her daughter. She finished shopping, put the cart away and headed to her car before realizing she’d left her phone in the cart. When she went to retrieve it, it was no longer there, so she notified a store manager.

Video surveillance showed a male, possibly Latino, about 5 feet 9 and weighing 200 pounds, and a female, possibly Latina, about 5 feet 7 and weighing 180 pounds with long, wavy light brown hair, taking the victim’s cart and removing the cellphone from it. The man placed the phone in his pocket and went inside the store for about 20 minutes. They were seen on the video exiting and reentering the store before leaving again.
