Petty theft: 4540 Encinas Drive. A teacher at La Cañada Elementary School told deputies that sometime between 7:45 a.m. on Oct. 31 and 3 p.m. Nov. 4, someone stole an unspecified amount of cash from her purse while it was unattended on her desk in the physical education office. Once she realized it was missing, she reported the incident to her supervisor. Deputies noted there had been other similar petty theft incidents reported at the same location.

Burglary, vehicle: 2200 block of Cross Street. A woman reported that sometime between midnight and 7:30 a.m. that day, someone forced entry into her locked 2013 Chevrolet Suburban while it was parked in her driveway and stole the vehicle’s third-row seat. The rear cargo door window is thought to have been the point of entry, deputies observed, as scratches were visible under the window latch, which was damaged.

Burglary, residence: 1200 block of Green Lane. A woman locked and left her home at around 11 a.m. When she returned around 4:30 p.m. that day, she noticed a door directly south of her front door had been forced open. Inside, she found her office, master bathroom closet and master bedroom nightstand had been ransacked. A hearing aid and a blue sapphire pendant surrounded by 4 karats of diamonds were stolen from the nightstand.

A neighbor said in an interview with deputies she came home at around noon and saw a white Chevrolet Suburban, possibly a 2003 model with a circular bumper sticker, driving eastbound on Green. The vehicle then parked on the east side of La Cañada Boulevard and a white male, about 6 feet tall and in his 30s or 40s, wearing baggy shorts and a red baseball cap, talking on his cellphone. The man stared at the neighbor but said nothing.

Grand theft: 600 block of Foothill Boulevard. An assistant manager of a La Cañada store reported to an authority with the business that at around 12:35 p.m. the day before, four black adult females were inside the store looking at high-end handbags and backpacks. Two of the women were seen selecting merchandise from a display table and exiting the store without paying. The other two left shortly thereafter, apparently empty-handed.

The store authority said she witnessed similar suspects at a Glendale store one hour earlier that day engaging in suspicious behavior. She noted the license plate of their vehicle and called the La Cañada store to warn employees there they might be coming. When the potential suspects arrived at that store, the assistant manager called her.

The woman told deputies she filed a similar report with the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station on Oct. 20 after three black females were seen stealing high-end purses. She said she believed at least two of the women from the most recent theft were also involved in the October incident.
