Burglary, school: 4540 Encinas Drive. A man reported a teacher at the school had money stolen from her lunch during lunch period that day, between 11:50 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. That same teacher had money taken from her purse the week before as well, and had filed a report with the sheriff’s department in that incident.

The teacher told deputies she’d left her purse in the physical education office for lunch and locked the door behind her. When she came back, she saw her purse had been moved and three 20-dollar bills were missing from her wallet. She’d marked the bills with her initials for identification purposes, and was suspicious of one of the aides who has keys to the office.

The victim said she and other employees at the school, who also leave their belongings in the P.E. office, have been the victims of credit card fraud in recent months.

Burglary, residence: 100 block of Normandy Lane. A woman said her alarm company called her at 6:12 p.m. that day to tell her the motion sensor alarm at her home had been activated. When she came home at 6:27 p.m., she saw lights on in the kitchen and one of her bedrooms, though she remembered leaving all the lights off when she left for work that morning.

Deputies observed a glass door in the kitchen had been broken to access the house. A bedroom had been ransacked and several jewelry boxes were opened and strewn about, leaving pieces all over the floor.

The victim reported that several gold and silver necklaces with pearl and emerald stones, as well as multiple pairs of earrings were missing.

In the second incident, a man reported returning to the parking lot at 10 p.m. after a movie and discovering someone had broken into his locked 2008 GMC Yukon and removed its third-row seat and driver’s-side airbag. There was no visible damage to the vehicle, deputies noted.

Burglary, residence: 5200 block of Vista Miguel Drive. A woman told deputies that sometime between 4 p.m. the day before and 10:45 a.m. that day, someone forced open the living room French doors of her one-bedroom guest house and stole several items, including an Apple MacBook Air in a gold-colored case, a gold-colored Sony PlayStation 3 with remote controls and her U.S. passport. The victim said some jewelry and additional property may have been missing from the bedroom and bathroom.

Deputies observed all rooms but the kitchen were rummaged through. One neighbor said when interviewed she heard someone knocking on her door at midnight, but that she never answered the knocking. In the course of writing the report, the deputy was told by the victim a La Cañada resident called her because he’d found her passport in a gutter on La Cañada Boulevard at Olive Lane earlier that day.
