Crime Report: The final week of September brings with it more smashed glass —and some bloodstains — in four burglaries

Share

Sept. 25

Burglary: 5200 block of Haskell Street. A woman reported that when she returned home from work at about 5:55 p.m. she found the front door ajar. She peered inside and saw a closet door open and thought an intruder might be in her home, so she closed the door, stayed outside and called 911. Responding deputies found the master bedroom and bathroom had been ransacked. The woman’s husband, who was the last to leave home that day, said he’d left the property locked. Taken were a 20” necklace, a white gold chain with two 2-carat diamonds, costume jewelry, a men’s Movado watch and a pillow case.

Sept. 26

Theft by access card: 1100 block Atlee Drive. A woman reported three fraudulent transactions had been made using her debit card at sites in Studio City, West Hollywood and Los Angeles between Sept. 21 and Sept. 22.

Burglary: 900 block of Foothill Boulevard. A man walking his dog in the early morning of Sept. 26 passed the business, saw its door had been shattered and called the sheriff’s station to report it. The business owner told responding sheriff’s deputies that he’d locked the business up at 6:30 p.m. Sept. 25 and at about 3 a.m. Sept. 26, he received a phone call from his alarm company telling him the alarm had been activated. Using his mobile device, he checked on video surveillance of the business and saw no activity, so he canceled the alarm. During a walk-through later in the morning with a deputy, the owner pointed out cabinets that had been ransacked, but he could not immediately say whether anything had been stolen.

Forgery; mail theft: 4300 block of Commonwealth Avenue. A woman reported learning via a call from Sears MasterCard fraud unit that someone had used a convenience check to take a cash advance on her account. She had not, nor had she authorized anyone else to do so. She recalled her mail having been stolen one day in August and thinks the convenience check might have been included in a MasterCard mailing that could have been taken from her mailbox at that time.

Sept. 28

Burglary: 1000 block Stratford Drive. A woman reported she left her home locked at 11:35 a.m., but when she returned to it at 1:15 p.m. and pulled into the attached garage, she found the door between the garage and house open. Inside, droplets of blood were on the floor and financial papers were strewn about. The responding deputy noted a broken French door pane, a shattered bedroom window and found the front door open. Missing were an Apple iPhone, an Apple iPad and an Apple laptop computer. The deputy noted on the report that at about 4:30 p.m. that day, another deputy recovered a stolen vehicle with bloodstains on the exterior and interior. It had been left parked on the 4400 block of Chevy Chase Drive.

Burglary: 1700 block of Fairmount Avenue. A male reported he and his mother, who had left the house at 8:15 a.m. and returned at 5:45 p.m., found the front door open. He walked in, saw there was a broken window, walked out and remained there with his mother to await deputies. The house was in order and the only thing that seemed to be missing was a house key that had been kept in a backyard shed.

Sept. 29

Theft by false pretenses: 2000 block of Tondolea Lane. A man reported being swindled out of money (in an amount unspecified in the crime report) when he attempted to sell a table via a Craigslist ad.

Oct. 2

Vandalism: 4400 block of Rockland Place. A man reported that sometime between 8:30 p.m. Oct. 1 and 6:20 a.m Oct. 2, someone smashed the front driver’s side window of his 2017 Fiat, which he’d left in his apartment building’s lot. Nothing appeared to have been stolen.
