Services were held Wednesday in Idaho for Dr. Andrew John “Drew” Meyer, a former La Cañada Unified School District administrator who passed away Oct. 29 after having been in failing health for more than a year, according to his family. He was 72.

Meyer served as principal of La Cañada High School from 1986 to 1989, then was promoted to assistant superintendent of the district, a role he held until 1994 when he was hired as superintendent of the San Lorenzo Valley Unified School in Santa Cruz County.

During his tenure here, Meyer and his family resided in La Cañada Flintridge, where he also wore a civic mantle as president of the Kiwanis Club for its 1992-93 club year. He was known for his focus on any task he was assigned.

“I was PTSA president at La Cañada High School when Drew Meyer was hired as principal,” recalls Jeanne Broberg, a former president of the La Cañada school board. “I worked with Dr. Meyer on the school board when he was assistant superintendent. He was a very energetic, detail oriented, hard-working leader. He will be greatly missed in all the areas where he has served.”

Meyer and his wife, Suzanne, eventually moved to Idaho Falls, where they lived for the past several years. In June they celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

In addition to his wife, Meyer is survived by his son, James and daughter-in-law Mary (Medford) Meyer; son David and daughter-in-law Jenny (Cluff) Meyer, and 11 grandchildren. He also leaves his sister, Mary Nan Meyer.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests memorial donations to the Andrew J. Meyer Scholarship Fund in care of ISU Federal Credit Union, 2255 E. Sunnyside Road, Idaho Falls, ID 83404.
