Group seeks signatures to separate Sagebrush area from Glendale Unified

Residents of La Cañada’s western “Sagebrush” area, who’ve been working for years to secure a transfer of homes from Glendale Unified School District’s jurisdiction to La Cañada Unified’s, are taking their mission to the streets.

On Saturday, a group of 20 assembled at the home of Sagebrush resident and 43rd State Assembly District hopeful Rajiv Dalal to pick up petitions they intend to circulate throughout the neighborhood.

Their aim is to collect the 403 signatures necessary to take their case to the Los Angeles County Office of Education and potentially begin the procedure necessary to have a transfer adjudicated. This comes after the two school districts have failed to reach a mutual agreement.

Tom Smith, chair of Unite LCF, said Monday collecting the signatures should not be a problem.

“Once they open their doors, we’re going to get their signatures,” he said. “Our challenge will be just to catch people at home.”
