162 graduate from St. Francis High

Marking the completion of their high school years, 162 young men from the St. Francis High School Class of 2016 collected their diplomas Saturday during traditional commencement exercises held in the school’s courtyard.

Aaron Baker led the singing of the national anthem, Senior Class President Evan Swayne welcomed the crowd and Valedictorian Gabriel Alpuerto gave an address. Alpuerto also received the Capuchin Award and Medal for Scholarship. The program also recognized Co-Salutatorians William Huston and Joshua Lee for exceptional achievement.

According to school officials, among them the graduating class earned a total of 211 scholarships and awards to various colleges and universities.

Dignitaries involved in Saturday’s ceremony included Fr. Tony Marti, OFM Cap., the school president; Principal Thomas Moran and Mark Heydorff, the chairman of the school’s board of directors. Fr. Harold Snider, OFM Cap., the Provincial of the Western American Province of the Capuchin Franciscan Order, represented his Excellency Bishop José Gómez, Archbishop of Los Angeles.
