La Cañada Flintridge is in ‘excellent condition’ says Spence during State of the City address

In one of his last acts as La Cañada’s mayor before this week’s council reorganization, Dave Spence delivered a message of optimism on Wednesday, March 30, in a “State of the City” address to Kiwanis Club members at Descanso Gardens.
“Your city is in excellent condition,” said Spence, reporting highlights from City Manager Mark Alexander’s 2015 annual report of city activities.
Operating on an $11.8-million general fund budget, the city spent more than $5 million last year on capital projects, resurfacing and reconstructing 2.73 miles of city streets, the mayor reported.

Three sound walls were constructed to reduce noise along the Foothill (210) Freeway, and the LCF Shuttle offered 33,449 free rides. In addition to providing 15 free Memorial Park concerts through its “Music in the Park” summer series, the city serviced more than 5,000 trees and recycled 26 tons of material that would otherwise have gone to landfills.
“It’s important that people know City Hall really is working for them and the betterment of the community,” Spence said.
