La Cañada athletic fields to reopen

Share

La Cañada’s athletic fields were expected to reopen Wednesday after a one-month winter closure period, according to a release issued Tuesday by city officials.

Workers took advantage of the break to aerate and over-seed the turf. In preparation for the baseball and softball seasons, the infield skins are leveled and new Dodger dirt is in place.

“Maintenance periods like this allow our youth sports groups to play at exceptional facilities,” City Manager Mark Alexander stated in the release. “The community has been very understanding during the closure periods, as we see the benefits when the fields reopen.”

During this winter’s El Niño rain system, residents are reminded to call the field closure hotline when it rains, (818) 790-8898, to receive updates on field conditions and availability.
