Parks and Rec seeks public input on open space needs

Interested in bringing a public fitness zone to La Cañada Flintridge? Or maybe you’d prefer to see a picnic shelter built, or the tennis courts replaced at the Cornishon Avenue grounds of the former Foothill Intermediate School?

The Parks and Recreations Commission is looking for members of the public to share their thoughts in a park-needs assessment community workshop being held during Wednesday’s regular meeting, which starts at 6 p.m. at La Cañada Flintridge City Hall.

Residents and city officials will create a prioritized list of 10 projects to submit to the county of Los Angeles as it moves forward with plans to pursue a ballot measure for a parcel-tax program to replace soon-to-expire Proposition A Recreation funding.

The La Cañada community workshop is part of a countywide comprehensive park needs assessment taking place throughout the 88 cities that will be affected by the measure if it passes.

Members of the public are invited to comment on potential projects that meet guidelines set forth by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors. Suggestions must occur at a single location and involve the repair of an existing park amenity, the addition or replacement of a new amenity type to an existing park or the construction of a new park.

For more information, contact Peter Castro, division manager of Administrative Services, at (818) 790-8880 or email pcastro@lcf.ca.gov.

La Cañada Flintridge City Hall is located at 1327 Foothill Blvd., La Cañada.
