Southern California Edison liaison vows to address issues

On Tuesday, members of the La Cañada Flintridge City Council met Adrian Garcia, the newly appointed liaison between the city and Southern California Edison. Garcia introduced himself and briefed council members on the status of several utility-related issues in town.

“I come as a partner,” Garcia said. “I know that we have some work to do here, particularly in the area of outages. I’m working with your staff on addressing that topic as well as some partnership projects.”

Garcia said he is in the process of preparing a list to update the community on planned improvements that will soon be coming down the pike and would present his findings to the council in May.

City Manager Mark Alexander, who’s been in the process of meeting with Edison executives to understand the reason for multiple outages in La Cañada, said Tuesday he’s learned labor issues may be a contributing factor.

“This is an issue that needs to be brought to a higher level within the management of Southern California Edison, as well as potentially legislation,” Alexander said, adding he plans to speak directly with the president of the California Public Utilities Commission sometime in June.

“Quite frankly, I don’t think Edison is in a position right now to be able to make changes in order to address what needs to be done,” Alexander said.
