St. Bede’s holds its annual Jog-a-Thon

More than 240 students, along with faculty, staff and parents of St. Bede the Venerable School, on Oct. 21 put on bright orange T-shirts and hit the St. Francis track for the annual Jog-a-Thon.

The event, chaired this year by Andy and Georgia Miller, is one of the school’s largest fundraisers. The T-shirts were purchased from Homeboy Industries, an organization founded by Father Greg Boyle that serves high-risk, formerly gang-related men and women in the Los Angeles area.

The morning started with a rally in the St. Bede Parish Hall, where raffle prizes added to the day’s excitement. At the St. Francis track, the eighth-grade Jog-a-Thon Committee manned a deejay booth while the participants ran, jogged or walked the track.

Following the Jog-a-Thon was another St. Bede tradition, Dad’s Burgers. As they have for many years, La Cañadans Mike and Kathleen Pernecky donated the food. The entire operation, from grilling the burgers to serving up ice cream sundaes, was manned by the dads of St. Bede students.
