A St. Francis High School parent was hospitalized with head injuries Thursday evening after being struck by a vehicle in a crosswalk near the school, officials said.

At around 6:25 p.m., the woman was reportedly struck by a hit-and-run driver while making her way through a crosswalk on Foothill Boulevard in La Cañada Flintridge, said Sgt. Alan Chu of the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station. The victim fell from the impact, suffering a head injury in the process.

“She was crossing the street, and somebody came heading eastbound and basically grazed her,” said Chu, who responded to the call. “[The driver] stopped for a second, looked and then took off.”

The vehicle was described as a light-colored sedan, but no other identifying features were immediately available.

“That’s not a lot to go on, there are a lot of light-colored sedans out there,” Chu said.

The victim, who’d come to the campus to attend an event, was conscious and alert when deputies and paramedics arrived on scene. She was taken to USC Verdugo Hills Hospital for further evaluation, Chu said.
