Workshop on climate plan slated tonight at La Cañada Flintridge City Hall

The La Cañada Flintridge City Council reviewed Tuesday the draft of a newly created Climate Action Plan, which provides an inventory of the community’s greenhouse gas emissions and identifies measures that could be implemented to reduce them.

Christina McAdams, a representative from Rincon Consultants who’s been working with the city’s planning department and members of the public to create the draft plan, shared some of its basic findings and recommendations.

Several categories of potential improvements were identified, including energy and water use, solid waste, transportation, urban greening and climate adaptation. McAdams explained city officials could choose to focus on certain recommendations to help the city meet and surpass state emission-reduction targets in the coming decades.

Public input into the plan was collected in meetings with the school district, the Jet Propulsion Laboratory and through several community workshops held since March.

One last public workshop takes place Thursday evening at 6 p.m. in City Hall Council Chambers, at which time residents can review and weigh in on the draft Climate Action Plan. Locals can also review the draft document online and participate in a survey by visiting lcf.ca.gov/planning/climate-action-plan.
