Letter: Community Center’s multitude of thanks

Share

The Community Center of La Cañada Flintridge would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone involved in our 22nd annual Thanksgiving Fun Run & Food Drive. This event is the biggest fundraiser that the Community Center puts on and all of the proceeds from the event keeps our programs moving forward.

We appreciate all of the sponsors, donors and participants. Without them, this event would not be able to happen. We are especially appreciative of the city of La Cañada Flintridge for its behind-the-scenes efforts and for allowing us to have this event. We are grateful to the Crescenta Valley Sheriff’s Station and all that it takes to keep our streets safe for all the participants during the event.

This year our Food Drive was a great success. We had six schools take part along with a couple of businesses and we were overflowing with goods at the Community Center. We are grateful for NASA Services who took care of all the logistics of the food drive and let us use their bins for the food. We raised more than $500 in donations and gift cards for the Food Drive from the participants of our run and we thank them all for their generosity.

Speaking of generosity, it surely has been a great week. This year for the first time the Community Center took part in a global cause called Giving Tuesday, which took place Dec 1. Sometimes I don’t think it registers enough with people that the Community Center is a nonprofit and we always need help financially. This past July, there was a storm that blew through and flooded our building. We spent a lot of money drying out, but the water damage on the main floor has lifted our laminate flooring to the point we need to replace it. So this year, on Giving Tuesday it was our hope to raise $15,000 to replace the floor in our main room that has been our heart and soul of our community center. We received many donations, and we are extremely grateful. Now that Giving Tuesday has come and gone our doors are always open for any type of donation big or small.
