Letter: Sagebrush denizens can sign petition

Share

Re: “Canvassing for Sagebrush,” Feb. 11. Thank you for providing coverage of the launch to gather petition signatures within the “Sagebrush” area. The petition requests a transfer of the western edge of La Cañada Flintridge (LCF) from the jurisdiction of Glendale Unified School District to that of La Cañada Unified School District.

The residents of the “Sagebrush” area, represented by UniteLCF!, decided to take action as the transfer discussions between the two school districts have proved fruitless, despite two years of talks.

A notable point put forth in the current petition language is that the GUSD-owned park/drop-off lot on Ocean View Boulevard has been specifically excluded from the proposed transfer area. This would leave the ownership and use of that lot exclusively with GUSD. While there never was any real threat to the continued use of the lot by GUSD, the substantial uproar that resulted was detrimental to the district discussions. Excluding it from the transfer area was an easy accommodation to make for the sake of easing community tensions.

We’d like your readers to know the territory transfer petition can also be signed at the office of the LCF Chamber of Commerce office, located at the Allen Lund building. 4529 Angeles Crest Highway, Suite 102. One must be a registered voter residing in the “Sagebrush” area to sign the petition.

Thank you for covering this issue, which is so important to the community you serve.
