Religion Briefs: Methodists to host service, lunch

Fuller Theological Seminary student Denise Lenore is the guest speaker at the 10:30 a.m. service this Sunday at La Cañada United Methodist Church. Her sermon is titled “Stay Awake and Pray.”

At noon, the church holds its Super Bowl Sunday “Friendship Luncheon.” Sports aficionado Bill Evans will entertain those gathered with sports trivia and his analysis of the Denver Broncos taking on the Carolina Panthers.

The La Cañada church will join Crescenta Valley United Methodist Church, 2700 Montrose Ave., Montrose, for its Ash Wednesday service at 7 p.m. on Feb. 10.

Congregationalist service planned

This Sunday, Feb. 7, there will be a 10 a.m. service of public worship at La Cañada Congregational Church, 1200 Foothill Blvd. Visitors are welcome.

The Rev. Skip Lindeman will lead the service and preach on the topic, “The Transfiguration.”

Organist Joe Klice will provide special music for the morning, and the Chancel Choir, directed by Dr. Harold Daugherty, will sing, “Jubilate Deo,” an anthem by Benjamin Britten.
