Religion Briefs: Seniors to join interfaith baccalaureate service

An interfaith baccalaureate service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday, May 24 at St. Bede the Venerable Catholic Church, 215 Foothill Blvd.

All seniors attending La Cañada high schools, their families and community members are invited to attend the event, which will be followed by a reception. Graduates attending the baccalaureate are asked to arrive at the church by 6:30 p.m. wearing their caps and gowns.

Sally Spangler, a longtime local youth mentor and college consultant, will serve as the evening’s keynote speaker. Opening remarks will be delivered by La Cañada High School Principal Ian McFeat.

Baccalaureate includes the reading of scriptures and testimonies by seniors who are active in local Islamic, Jewish and Christian congregations. Musical offerings will be provided by the LCHS Chamber Singers and “The Venerables” from St. Bede Church.

Congregationalists to learn about Trinity Sunday

The Rev. Skip Lindeman will address the topic “Trinity Sunday,” when worshipers gather Sunday, May 22 for the 10 a.m. service at La Cañada Congregational Church.

The Chancel Choir, led by Harold Daugherty, will sing the anthem, “All Creatures of Our God and King”, arranged by Parker. The church organist is Joe Klice.

Visitors are welcome to attend the service and are invited to stay afterward to enjoy a fellowship hour.

Methodists to mark Youth Sunday

Youth Sunday will be celebrated during the 10:30 a.m. service May 22 at La Cañada United Methodist Church, 104 Berkshire Place.

Students who are graduating, being promoted or being confirmed at the church will be honored and Pastor Elaine Cho has chosen as her sermon topic “Three Levels of Faith.” Cho will explain each of the three levels that people can reach at different points in their lives as they strive to move forward to increased faith.

Early elementary Sunday school is available during the church service. Lunch and youth ministry is at noon.

The church’s weekly Intercessory Prayer is held on Wednesdays at 10:30 a.m., followed by Bible Study at 11 a.m. Visitors are welcome.
