Morikawa advances at U.S. Amateur Championship

It’s been a successful run thus far for La Cañada High graduate Collin Morikawa during the first three days of the United States Amateur Championship.

The 12th-seeded Morikawa, a junior at the University of California, defeated 53rd seed Blake Collyer of Australia, 6 and 5, in a round-of-64 match Wednesday at Riviera Country Club in Pacific Palisades.

Morikawa, a four-time All-Area Boys’ Golfer of the Year, will meet 21st seed Dylan Perry of Australia in a round-of-32 match at 8:25 a.m. Thursday.

Two rounds of stroke play began the tournament. Morikawa carded a two-under-par 68 on Monday and then had a 70 on Tuesday to finish at 138.

The tournament will run through Sunday.
