Sports Roundup: La Cañada cross-country’s Arthur wins at Rosemead

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

La Cañada, Flintridge Sacred Heart at Rosemead Invitational: There was no shortage of impressive efforts for the Spartans and Tologs on Friday.

Sophomore Sarah Arthur captured the sophomore race in a time of 19 minutes, 5.2 seconds, while her teammates combined for a ninth-place finish with 243 points.

La Cañada’s Ellaney Matarse impressed in the freshman race, taking second place in a time of 19 minutes, 50.6 seconds, while junior Adena DiPaolo took fourth in 19:13.7 and Madison Pirkey earned 34th (21:28.7).

Alexandra Christodoulou took ninth in the freshman race in 21:33.3 for Tologs, who finished second to South El Monte, 98-102. Claire Pratt earned 15th (22:20.2), while Joshlyn Aguirre took 17th (22:21.6).

The Tologs finished third in the sophomore race with 122 points as Lauren Nettles earned ninth (20:14.9), Alexandra Erhart took 25th (21:44.1) and Grace Italia merited 42nd (22:41.7).

The Tologs finished fifth in the junior race with 134 points thanks to four top-50 efforts from Megan Koehler (22nd, 21:00.6), Eria Wei (40th, 21:39.6), Kiley Wilson (42nd, 21:43.6) and Marin Telleria (43rd, 21:43.7).

Lastly, Flintridge Sacred Heart earned seventh in the senior competition with 142 points as Bobbie Bryne (16th, 20:53.3) and Lauren Yeh (40th, 22:50) powered the squad.

Flintridge Prep at Cool Breeze Invitational: In a race Friday afternoon at the Rose Bowl loaded will upper-division opponents, the Rebels finished 13th with 339 points in the seeded varsity run.

Rebels senior Sophie Gitlin led the charge, earning 10th place in a time of 17 minutes, 54.6 seconds, while junior Sasha Codiga was 34th in 18:33.7

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

La Cañada at Rosemead Invitational: Solid efforts were all around for the Spartans on Friday afternoon.

La Cañada’s Owen Serricchio placed second in the junior race in 16:24, while Sheldon Watanabe finished 12th in the sophomore race in 17:41.9 and Christian Cabello placed 27th in the freshman race in a time of 19:03.6.

As a team, La Cañada placed seventh in the senior competition with 202 points as Shaan Sandhu (38th, 17:37.1), Christos Menemenlis (43rdf, 17:55.7) and Adam Goodman (48th, 18:03.2) posted top-50 efforts.

Flintridge Prep at Cool Breeze Invitational: Flintridge Prep was led again by senior Evan Patinelli on Friday afternoon at the Rose Bowl.

Pattinelli turned in a strong effort by earning third place in 15:06.7 in the seeded race as the Rebels placed 18th with 450 points.

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Firebaugh 0: Flintridge Prep got a career-high 13 aces and six kills from Jada Gritton Thursday in a 25-17, 25-6, 25-4 Prep League road win. The Rebels (4-1, 2-1 in league) received six kills from Libby Penn.

GIRLS’ GOLF

La Cañada in Pacific League match: The Spartans took third with a 239 in Wednesday’s Pacific League match at Hansen Dam Golf Course in Pacoima. Maddie Kang carded a six-over-par 43 and Ranchel Oh had a 44 for the Spartans.

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 197, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 241: The Tologs dropped a Mission League match Thursday at Woodley Lakes Golf Course. Skye Henry carded a seven-over-44 for Flintridge Sacred Heart.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Notre Dame Academy 10, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 8: Flintridge Sacred Heart (0-2) dropped a nonleague home match Thursday at Scholl Canyon Tennis Center.
