Sports Roundup: La Cañada, Flintridge Prep girls win CIF cross-country prelim heats

GIRLS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Flintridge Prep in CIF Southern Section Division V preliminaries: An impressive day was had by the Rebels on Saturday morning at the CIF Southern Section prelims at Riverside Cross-Country Course as they won their heat with 67 points, a comfortable 19-point margin ahead of St. Margaret’s.

Sasha Codiga made an impressive return after a fall at the Prep League finals and took sixth in 18 minutes, 54.2 seconds. Haley Allen took eighth in 18:56.7, Gabriela Bennett was 15th in 19:58.8 and Sophie Gitlin took 17th in 19:59.9.

La Cañada, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in CIF Southern Section Division IV preliminaries: The Rio Hondo League champions and Mission League champions took first and seventh, respectively, in their heat at Saturday’s CIF prelims at Riverside Cross-Country Course.

The Spartans won with 90 points, led by Kayley Bond, who finished second in 17 minutes 38 seconds.

Katie Scoville was seventh in 18:40.8, Adena DiPaolo was 30th in 19:29.3 and Ellaney Matarese was 31st in 19:30.4.

The Tologs were led by the three-girl pack of Lauren Nettles (27th, 19 minutes 21.4 seconds), Samantha Covey (29th, 19:27.2) and Alexandra Christodoulou (33rd, 19:32.3).

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Flintridge Prep in CIF Southern Section Division V preliminaries: As expected, the Rebels qualified for the CIF Southern Section Division V finals with their prelims performance on Saturday at the Riverside Cross-Country Complex with a second-place finish of 70 points in their heat behind Xavier Prep’s 64.

Sebastian Evans (sixth place, 16 minutes 59.8 seconds), Carson Hasbrouck (seventh, 16:59.8) and Evan Pattinelli (eighth, 17:00.0) packed together to lead the way for Prep.

La Cañada in CIF Southern Section Division IV preliminaries: The Spartans are headed to the CIF finals after a 10th-place finish in their heat at the prelims on Saturday at the Riverside Cross-Country Course.

Owen Serricchio led the way in 13th at 15 minutes 57.8 seconds, with Ryan Van Slooten taking 28th at 16:21.5.
