Sports Roundup: Gonzalez, Flintridge Prep girls’ soccer stop Mater Dei
GIRLS’ SOCCER
Flintridge Prep 3, Mater Dei 2: Down by a goal at halftime, Flintridge Prep rallied with two second-half goals on Saturday to defeat host Mater Dei, last season’s CIF Southern Section Division I finalist.
Julia Gonzalez scored two goals for the Rebels, who were Division III semifinalists last season, and Mikaela Celeste had two assists. Jenna Mijares also scored for Prep (1-1) and Caitlin Fong had an assist.
Flintridge Prep’s first game of the season was a loss against Sierra Canyon, the reigning Southern Section and Southern California Regional Division 4 champion. Up next the Rebels will face host Los Alamitos, a Southern Section Division I quarterfinalist last season, on Tuesday.

Flintridge Prep 4, Sierra Canyon 1: Visiting Flintridge Prep began its season Friday with a nonleague victory.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Clovis West 76, St. Francis 51: The Golden Knights fell in Saturday afternoon’s championship game of the NoCal Tip-Off Classic in Sacramento.
St. Francis (3-1) defeated Whitney on Friday, 93-92, on Friday to get into the championship game.
