Sports Roundup: La Cañada boys’ golf clinches share of league crown

BOYS’ GOLF

La Cañada 199, Temple City 215: The Spartans topped the Rams on Tuesday at Eaton Canyon Golf Course to clinch at least a share of the Rio Hondo League championship. They have won 13 straight league titles.

La Cañada (8-0, 6-0 in league with two matches left) received a one-under-par 34 from John Hickman and 39s from Dylan Choi and Matt Chi.

“It’s something we get to check off on our to-do list,” La Cañada first-year Coach Derrick Williams said. “We still have a lot of golf left to play and we just want to be hitting our stride in the next few weeks.”

Buckley 188, Chadwick 197, Flintridge Prep 210: The Rebels received a two-over-par 38 from Ben Sacks on Tuesday in a Prep League tri-match at Woodley Lakes Golf Course. Flintridge Prep (8-9, 2-6 in league) got a 40 from Matthew Choi.

St. Francis 427, Valencia Valencia 438: Stian Lintvedt carded a seven-over-par 79 and Henry Fitzhugh added an 83 on Thursday to lead the Golden Knights (7-4) to a nonleague win at TPC Valencia.

SOFTBALL

Flintridge Prep 13, Firebaugh 4: The Rebels rolled to a Prep League road victory Tuesday afternoon thanks to a grand effort from Melissa Grande.

The sophomore finished three for four with a grand slam, two doubles and six runs batted in. Maya Vasquez went three for three with a double and one RBI and finished a stellar defensive performance with five assists. Amari Dennis finished two for three with two RBI for Flintridge Prep (8-5, 4-3 in league).

Louisville 6, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 1: The Tologs lost a Mission League home game Tuesday. With the loss, Flintridge Sacred Heart dropped to 9-4, 0-3 in league.

BASEBALL

Downey 2, St. Francis 0: The Golden Knights (5-14) fell in a St. Paul Tournament game Tuesday. Christian Muro, Brandon Lewis and Aaron Treloar each had a hit for St. Francis.

St. Francis picked up a 5-4 tournament win against Banning on Monday. The Golden Knights received a game-winning single from Lewis in the bottom of the seventh inning to score Muro.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

Flintridge Prep at Mt. San Antonio College Relays: Though Flintridge Prep participated in only one event, the Rebels turned in the only local win in Saturday’s event at El Camino College.

The Flintridge Prep 4x800-meter relay squad captured the seeded event in 9 minutes, 38.71 seconds as it won by 10 seconds over runner-up La Jolla (9:47.46).
