Sports Roundup: La Cañada track splits tri-meet

BOYS’ TRACK AN FIELD

La Cañada in Rio Hondo League meet: The Spartans split a three-way meet against Blair and South Pasadena at home on Thursday afternoon.

The Spartans defeated Blair, 89-6, but were bested by South Pasadena, 91.5-25.5, as the team’s record changed to 2-3 in league.

Seve Rodriguez captured the long jump in 20 feet, 5 inches, while the senior took second in the triple jump in 40-3.

Junior Mathew Tsujihara won the 400-meter dash in 53.21 seconds.

GIRLS’ TRACK AND FIELD

La Cañada in Rio Hondo League meet: The Spartans finished second in a three-way meet against Blair and South Pasadena at home on Thursday afternoon.

La Cañada blasted Blair, 78-16, but was defeated by South Pasadena, 93-25, to moved its record to 3-2 in league.

Sophomore Adena DiPaolo captured the 1,600-meter run in 5 minutes, 36.90 seconds. Freshman Sarah Arthur claimed the 3,200 in 12:29.10, while junior Claire Mirray clinched the 100 hurdles in 15.26.

BOYS’ GOLF

Flintridge Prep in Prep League individual finals: Flintridge Prep couldn’t advance any of its four players Thursday at Brookside Golf Course No. 2 in Pasadena.

Ben Sacks carded a seven-over-par 79 to finish fifth at 158. Sacks missed advancing to the CIF playoffs by one stroke, as the top four players advanced.

The Rebels also got a 96 from Brendan Barton for 186, followed by Matthew Choi (90 for 188) and Cameron Wu (102 for 191).

St. Francis 199, Glendora 210: The Golden Knights (9-5) received an even-par 36 from Stian Lintvedt on Thursday to post a nonleague win at Glendora Country Club. Aidan Tracey and Henry Fitzhugh had 39s for St. Francis.

BOYS’ SWIMMING

La Cañada 144, Blair 25: The Spartans earned a second-place finish in the Rio Hondo League after finishing off the regular season with a league victory at home on Thursday afternoon.

The triumph improved the Spartans’ record to 6-1 and 4-1 in league.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

La Cañada 133, Blair 23: The Spartans topped Blair on Thursday at home in Rio Hondo League action.

La Cañada finished second in the Rio Hondo League to San Marino with a 6-1 and 4-1 mark in league.

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

La Cañada 3, Gabrielino 1: The Spartans snapped a three-match losing streak and closed out the Rio Hondo League season with a 25-23, 25-22, 16-25, 25-20 victory at home on Thursday afternoon.

With the win, La Cañada improved to 3-12 and 3-5 in league and moved into third place.
