Sports Roundup: La Cañada leads off Rio Hondo League with sweep

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

La Cañada 3, South Pasadena 0: The Spartans kicked off Rio Hondo League play with an impressive 25-9, 25-20, 25-16 victory at home on Thursday.

La Cañada (7-3, 1-0), which finished third in league last season behind runner-up South Pasadena, received 11 kills each from Chloe Kerstein (10 digs) and Emily Weirick (12 digs and four aces), while Claire Kevorkian with nine kills. Emily Gannon added 14 digs, while Hailey Belcher chipped in 32 assists and 10 digs.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 241, Louisville 273: The Tologs recorded a Mission League win Tuesday at Encino Golf Course. Skye Henry carded a 10-over-par 46 to lead Flintridge Sacred Heart.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Burbank 16, St. Francis 9: The visiting Golden Knights surrendered nine of the game’s first 10 goals and fell in nonleague action Friday evening. The loss dropped St. Francis to 5-8 this season.
