Sports Roundup: La Cañada girls’ tennis maintains grip on league second spot

GIRLS’ TENNIS

La Cañada 10, South Pasadena 8: The Spartans kept their hold on second place in the Rio Hondo League with a home victory on Tuesday evening.

With the win, La Cañada improved to 6-5 and 5-1 in league.

Pasadena Poly 11, Flintridge Prep 7: Despite a spirited effort, the Rebels dropped a Prep League home match at the Arcadia Tennis Center on Tuesday afternoon.

Flintridge Prep is now 3-8, 1-7.

Marlborough School 18, Flintridge Sacred Heart 0: The Tologs suffered a tough Mission League loss at Scholl Canyon on Tuesday afternoon.

With the defeat, Flintridge Sacred Heart fell to 1-9 and 1-5 this season.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

Temple City 14, La Cañada 11: The Spartans turned in a much better effort in their second visit against the host Rams before falling in Rio Hondo League action on Tuesday afternoon at Pasadena City College.

Eight Spartans scored a goal with Thomas McNulty’s three scores leading La Cañada (4-16, 1-6), which was defeated by Temple City on Sept. 28 by a 14-7 score.

Flintridge Prep 11, La Salle 2: The Rebels didn’t give the Lancers much to celebrate on senior day in a Prep League match at Arcadia County Park.

The victory improved the Rebels’ record to 13-3 and 6-0 in league.

GIRLS’ GOLF

La Cañada 223, Westridge 305: The Spartans won their second straight match with a nonleague win Monday afternoon at Brookside Park.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy in Mission League finals: The Tologs finished the season fourth in league after carding a 500 at Hansen Dam Golf Course on Monday afternoon.

Flintridge Sacred Heart was led by Shanley Galanto, who shot a 17-over-par 89. Harvard-Westlake won with a 378, followed by Marlborough (394) and Sherman Oaks Notre Dame (423).
