Sports Roundup: La Cañada boys’, girls’ basketball have tournament title games in sight

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 57, Bonita 45: The Spartans improved to 2-0 in the La Cañada Holiday Classic Tournament with a victory Thursday evening.

The win sends La Cañada (5-2) into the pool play finale on Friday versus Sierra Canyon at 7:30 p.m. The winner of that contest moves into Saturday’s championship game at 7:30 p.m., while the loser competes in the third-place contest at 6.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

La Cañada 58, Arroyo 16: The Spartans turned in their most dominant victory of the season Wednesday evening in pool-play action of the Arroyo Tournament versus the host.

The Spartans (5-1) held the Knights to two points in two quarters to roll into the tournament semifinals on Friday evening at 7:30 versus La Habra Sonora.

Junior Brooke Yasuda matched Arroyo by scoring 16 points, while adding four steals and four rebounds. Morgan Tsujihara contributed 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and two steals in the win, while Lauren Scoville hauled in 11 rebounds.

GIRLS’ WATER POLO

La Cañada 7, Huntington Beach 6: An impressive road victory was had by the Spartans on Thursday afternoon.

The win improved the Spartans’ record to 3-4.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 16, Hoover 5: Host Flintridge Sacred Heart earned a nonleague victory Wednesday.

GIRLS’ SOCCER

La Cañada 1, West Rancho 0: For the fourth time in five matches, the Spartans picked up a nonleague victory at home on Thursday afternoon.

La Cañada improved to 6-2-1.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 4, Village Christian 0: Ian Odermatt and Colton Ramirez each scored two goals Wednesday to power the host Golden Knights (4-2-1) to a nonleague victory.
