Sports Roundup: Chen, Flintridge Prep girls’ basketball wrap up league
GIRLS’ BASKETBALL
Flintridge Prep 49, Pasadena Poly 39: Kaitlyn Chen collected a game-high 24 points Tuesday to lift the visiting Rebels to a Prep League win. Flintridge Prep got nine points from Sofia Gonzalez.
Flintridge Prep (17-5, 9-0 in league) locked up the outright league title.
La Cañada 74, Monrovia 32: Tess Oakley-Stilson scored 16 points to lead the Spartans to a Rio Hondo League win Tuesday on the road.
Brook Yasuda added 14 points and Lauren Scoville had 13 for the Spartans (21-4, 9-0 in league), who secured the league title last week.
BOYS’ BASKETBALL
Pasadena Poly 45, Flintridge Prep 38: Flintridge Prep dropped a Prep League road contest Tuesday. Jonathan Le had a team-high 11 points for the Rebels (12-11, 6-1 in league), who are tied for first with one game left.
BOYS’ SOCCER
Flintridge Prep 3, Pasadena Poly 1: The Rebels received goals from Tim Treinen and Simon Siskel to pick up a Prep League road win and clinch a share of the league championship. Flintridge Prep is 10-8-2, 3-2-1 in league.
St. Francis 2, Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 1: St. Francis picked up a Mission League road win Monday. St. Francis improved to 12-8-2, 6-4-1 in league.
St. Francis 3, Alemany 2: The Golden Knights got second-half goals from Seb Enriquez and Conor McGrory to earn a Mission League road win Friday. St. Francis improved to 11-8-2, 5-4-1 in league.
Firebaugh 2, Flintridge Prep 1: The Rebels lost a Prep League road match Friday to drop to 8-8-2, 2-2-1 in league.
GIRLS’ SOCCER
La Cañada 2, Monrovia 0: Goals by Chloe Kouyoumdjian and Gianna Mor provided the winning margin for the Spartans on Tuesday afternoon at home.
The Spartans improved to 10-5-4, 4-1-2 in league for 14 points, but a South Pasadena (6-1-1 in league) clinched the Tigers the league title.
GIRLS’ WATER POLO
La Cañada 18, Monrovia 4: The Spartans wrapped up another Rio Hondo League outright championship with a lopsided win on Tuesday afternoon at home.
The Spartans improved to 16-10, 7-0 in league.
GIRLS’ WRESTLING
La Cañada at CIF Southern Section Central Division Regional Qualifier: Four Spartans entered the tournament Saturday and two earned advancement to Friday’s CIF Southern Section Championships.
La Cañada 170-pound junior Sophie Garcia finished tied for third and senior 182-pounder Cheyenne Garcia tied for fifth to earn their spots in the finals at Corona Eleanor Roosevelt High. The two-day tournament gets underway Friday morning at 11.
Third-seeded Sophie Garcia finished 2-1 with two pins. Garcia’s defeat came in the semifinal round when the junior was beaten by Northview’s Mia Sandoval, 2-1.
Older sister Cheyenne Garcia entered as the top seed and also finished 2-1 to tie for fifth with two pins. Cheyenne Garcia was upset via a fall by Claremont’s Citlamina Mejia in the quarterfinals, but responded with a pin over Los Altos’ Natalie Hernandez in the consolation round.
The Garcia sisters are hoping for another top-eight finish to advance to the CIF State Tournament in Visalia, starting Feb. 23.
Spartans junior Natalia Silva finished 1-2 in the 143-pound bracket and sophomore Rachael Pariser finished 2-2 at 150 pounds with two falls and just missed the top-eight cut.
