Collis, Soul a game away from title shot

Former St. Francis High football star Luke Collis has a chance to be a part of history this Sunday.

The 28-year-old is the back-up quarterback for the Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League.

The Soul (14-3), regular-season champions of the American Football Conference, will host the Jacksonville Sharks (8-9) in the conference championship game in Allentown, Penn., at 3 p.m. (PDT). The contest will be televised on ESPN 2.

The match-up marks the third time this season both teams have met, with the Sharks topping the Soul, 59-41, on April 11 in Pennsylvania, while Philadelphia got revenge, 56-42, on June 4 in Florida.

Collis is backing up 2015 MVP and Offensive Player of the Year quarterback Dan Raudabaugh of Philadelphia, who has thrown for 4, 303 yards and 101 touchdowns, while completing 69.3 percent of his passes.

Raudabaugh’s brilliance hasn’t allowed Collis too much time, although the former Occidental College standout has completed nine of 21 passes for 109 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions.

Should Philadelphia win, it would then advance to ArenaBowl XXIX on Aug. 26 at a site to be determined.
