GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Prep 42, Westridge 30: After spending most of the first half of the season without forward Tala Ismail because of an injury, it took some time for the Flintridge Prep to have things come together.

Still, the Rebels overcame the loss of Ismail to stay at or near the top of the Prep League with the help of multiple contributions from other players.

Flintridge Prep received nine points apiece from Taylor Yoshida and Natalie Rozman to wrap up the league championship outright for the second straight season after turning back visiting Westridge on Wednesday.

“To win this league championship is extra special,” said Flintridge Prep co-Coach Kevin Kiyomura, who splits the coaching chores with Jayme Kiyomura Chan. “Every team has to find themselves at some point during the season and we had people step up after we lost Tala.

“Once we got Tala back, everything started to click. We feel like we are getting stronger.”
