Sports Roundup: Flintridge Prep girls’ volley picks up league win

GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Rio Hondo Prep 1: The Rebels earned a Prep League victory on Tuesday with a 25-15, 25-10, 24-26, 27-15 triumph. Ani Bernard finished with 40 assists for the Rebels (5-4-1, 2-1).

Flintridge Prep also received 16 kills from Jada Gritton and 12 from Ellen Chang.

Marymount 3, Flintridge Sacred Heart 2: The Tologs lost a thriller on the road in their Mission League opener, 25-23, 20-25, 26-28, 25-19, 15-7 on Tuesday evening.

With the defeat, Flintridge Sacred Heart dropped to 10-3 and 0-1.

Kayla Lund led the Tologs with 25 kills, 21 digs and four aces. Ellis DeJardin added 15 kills, 27 assists and eight digs, while Maddie Pernecky added 28 digs.

GIRLS’ TENNIS

Sherman Oaks Notre Dame 18, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 0: The visiting Tologs fell Tuesday in a Mission League match at Braemar Country Club.

BOYS’ WATER POLO

St. Francis in El Rancho Tournament: In their first-ever varsity tournament, the Golden Knights finished 2-2 and took fourth place in the two-day tournament that ended Saturday.

The Golden Knights (4-3) opened with victories over La Mirada and La Salle by scores of 9-8 and 13-12 (in overtime), respectively, before heading into Saturday’s action.

On Saturday, St. Francis was beaten by Cathedral, 18-13, before falling to Warren, 11-8, in the third-place game.

La Cañada 12, JSerra 6: The Spartans continued their undefeated run start the season by picking up a nonleague road victory in San Juan Capistrano on Thursday afternoon.

George Avakian led La Cañada (3-0) with five goals, Luke Stefan tallied four goals, while Alec Abrahamian, Robbie Louk and Wyatt Lowe all each chipped in one score apiece.
