Sports Roundup: Flintridge Prep, La Cañada girls’ soccer notch wins over area foes

GIRLS’ SOCCER

Flintridge Prep 3, Crescenta Valley 2: The host Rebels (2-0) got goals from Julia Gonzalez, Natalie Brown and Mikaela Celeste on Friday to earn a nonleague victory. Crescenta Valley fell to 1-1.

La Cañada 3, Burbank 2: On the road Thursday, the Spartans got their first win of the season and bestowed coach Kevin Nuemeier his first career win for La Cañada (1-1).

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 1, Pasadena Poly 1: The Tologs kept their record even at 1-1-1 with Saturday afternoon’s nonleague tie on the road.

BOYS’ SOCCER

St. Francis 1, Sylmar 0: The Golden Knights won at home Saturday in the Ralph Brandt Tournament to move to 2-0-1.

Flintridge Prep 2, Campbell Hall 2: Garrett Gaines and Ramzi Beshir had one goal and one assist each Friday for the visiting Rebels (1-0-1) in a nonleague match.

GIRLS’ BASKETBALL

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 38, West Ranch 37: Janna deVera finished with 10 points and Kysa Hayashi added six on Friday to lead the Tologs (1-4) to a win in the seventh-place game of the Falcon Tip-Off Classic at Crescenta Valley High.

BOYS’ BASKETBALL

South Pasadena 61, Flintridge Prep 50: Flintridge Prep closed out its first week of action at the Providence Tournament at 2-2 with a loss on Saturday despite a game-high 22 points from Jake Althouse.

Jonathan Le had 11 points for the Rebels, while Kendall Kikkawa had seven.

BOYS’ CROSS-COUNTRY

Colin FitzGerald, Evan Pattinelli at Foot Locker West Regional: A week removed from a disappointing 45th-place showing at the CIF State Division I final, FitzGerald turned in a stellar showing at Saturday’s Foot Locker Cross Country Championships West Regional at Mount San Antonio College.

The Crescenta Valley High junior finished 12th in 15 minutes 55.1 seconds.

The race was won by Utah senior Talon Hull in 15:28.3. FitzGerald was third-highest junior finisher and the fourth-highest non-senior. He was the fourth Californian across the finish line.

As for Pattinelli, the Flintridge Prep junior and reigning CIF Southern Section Division V champion, took 39th in 16:23.3.
