Sports Roundup: Flintridge Prep volleyball opens league with sweep

BOYS’ VOLLEYBALL

Flintridge Prep 3, Chadwick 0: The Rebels began Prep League action Thursday with a 25-14, 25-20, 25-11 home win. Flintridge Prep (9-2) received nine kills and two aces apiece from AJ Nicassio and Jonny Samuels and seven kills and two blocks from Majeed Ismail.

Bishop Amat 3, La Cañada 0: The visiting Spartans suffered a 25-12, 25-22, 25-23 nonleague road defeat Thursday. The Spartsn are 0-5.

BASEBALL

Pasadena Poly 12, Flintridge Prep 5: The Rebels dropped their Prep League opener on Thursday at the Glendale Sports Complex and had their 16-game league winning streak snapped in the process.

Prep fell behind, 9-0, after three innings. Max Rosenfeld had two hits, a run and a run batted in for the Rebels (6-3) and Danny Chiarodit had two walks, a hit and a run scored.

California 1, La Cañada 0: Connor Buchanan was a hard-luck loser on Wednesday in a nonleague road game as he threw a two-hitter and gave up just one run, but took the loss.

Buchanan struck out three and walked two.

Graham Massimino had two hits for the Spartans (4-3).

SOFTBALL

Chadwick 6, Flintridge Prep 2: Flintridge Prep dropped a Prep League home contest Thursday. Olivia Stevens had a triple and a run batted in and Taylor Yoshida had a double and an RBI for the Rebels (3-2, 1-1 in league) against the reigning league champs.

BOYS’ GOLF

Flintridge Prep 194, Milken Community 230: The Rebels (5-5) registered a nonleague win Thursday at Woodley Lakes Golf Course. Flintridge Prep received an even-par 36 from Ben Sacks and 38s from Matthew Choi and Brendan Barton.

On Wednesday, Temple City topped Flintridge Prep, 213-224, in a nonleague match at Eaton Canyon Golf Course. Preston Ho carded a four-over-par 39 for the Rebels, who got a 40 from Sacks.

GIRLS’ SWIMMING

Harvard-Westlake 130, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy 50: The Tologs fell in a Mission League road meet Thursday.

BOYS’ TENNIS

La Cañada 12, Flintridge Prep 6: Visiting Flintridge Prep (2-3) dropped a nonleague match Wednesday.
